Game of Thrones fans are highly anticipating the premiere of season 7. It will air on HBO on July 16, 2017 at 9 PM Eastern time. This show has been talked about and speculated on by fans for months, since the end of season 6 which left no real cliffhangers for fans. The show began the filming of season 7 in August of 2016, 4 months after the new season was announced to anxious fans. The first three episodes of the new season are already named, giving fans a brief hint of what's to come.

Season 7 will have several new cast members including Jim Broadbent asArchmaester Marwyn and Tom Hopper as Dickon Tarly. Fan favorites likePeter Dinklage,Emilia Clarke, andKit Harington will also be returning for the new season. Because HBO has again decided not to release advanced screeners of the new season, fans can't be certain of which direction the show is going to take and how the race for the throne is going to play out for some of these favorite characters.

The much anticipated episode 1 is called"Dragonstone" and was directed by Jeremy Podeswa and written byDavid Benioff & D. B. Weiss. Episodes 2 and 3 are called"Stormborn" and"The Queen's Justice" respectively, and both were directed byMark Mylod. The new season will likely have content not directly taken from the novels. But fans of the books will have pleased that authorGeorge R. R. Martin has been in close contact with show writers and directors to maintain the direction of the previous seasons that were based on the novels already written.

This season will be somewhat different that other seasons of Game of Thrones. Where most seasons have 10 episodes, season 7 will on have 7 new episodes. This has caused much disappointment for die-hard fans. Season 7, like previous seasons, was filmed in several areas with most of the filming having been completed in Northern Ireland, Spain, and Iceland. Some previous filming locations will not be used because those locations are no longer relevant to scenes of the show in season 7.

The season finale of Game of Thrones season 7 will air on August 27, 2017. Most fans have been anxiously waiting for this premiere to see how the battle for the throne will play out between the show's characters. With several different people vying for control, includingPetyr Baelish who threatened to take the throne for himself. The direction the show will take in upcoming episodes is likely to be worthwhile for any Game of Thrones fan. It remains to be seen whether Queen Mother Cersei will be able to maintain her control of the Iron Throne.
